Mia Wasikowska (14 October, 1989) was born and brought up in Canberra, Australia. Her mother is a photographer, Pole by origin, and her father is a painter. Mia often accompanied her parents as they went on travels across Europe with their gallery rounds. From the age of 9 to 15 Mia Wasikowska received training of ballet. However, when Mia was 14 years old, she made up her mind to drop the trainings. In Mia’s opinion, physical activity was affecting her self-respect. Soon she took a great interest in acting, as this art allows an actor or actress to investigate life’s incompleteness.
In 2004, Mia Wasikowska played her first part in the Australian soap opera All Saints. Two years later, the actress received a role in the movie Suburban Mayhem. Mia was nominated for this role in the category Young Actor’s AFI Award. She also acted in some short films, and in a horror film Rogue.
Mia’s talent for acting was highly appreciated in the United States. Her part in HBO’s In Treatment delighted many critics. In addition, the actress was complimented for her perfect American accent. Mia’s first American movie was Defiance.
In June, 2008, the actress was awarded to an Australians in the category Film Breakthrough Award. Mia Wasikowska acted the supporting part of Pamela Choate in the indie movie That Evening Sun, opposite Hal Holbrook. Mia’s acting enraptured the director of the film. In 2009, the actress received nomination for a Best Supporting Actress Independent Spirit Award for the given film.
In 2008, Tim Burton confirmed Wasikowska’s candidacy for the leading role in Alice in Wonderland. She acts a 19-year-old Alice who comes back to Wonderland. Such film stars as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway played in this film as well. After acting in Alice in Wonderland, Mia Wasikowska headed a cast in the comedy The Kids Are All Right. She acts the daughter of a couple of the same sex. She and her brother go in search of their biological father.
Subsequently, Wasikowska signed on to head the female cast in the film Gus Van Sant’s Restless. It is noteworthy that the actress agreed to have her long hair cut specially for the role. In May 2010, Mia Wasikowska signed on to play the title part in the film adaption of Jane Eyre.
